about

‘Tales of the Expected’ is a collaboration between paulfcook, Project Blackbird’s Ming Nagel and Jon Read and Sleeper drummer Andy Maclure.

paulfcook composed the backing track and sent this to Ming and Jon to add vocals and flugelhorn and Andy to add a drum track.

lyrics

It's a tale that I wrote
at the bottom of the ocean
with the dark plumes of ink in my mouth
that caressed all the words -
o perpetual motion -
to the widening gyre without

Was the thread in the eye not binding
when I stitched through the spine?
Was the knife at the fold not kindly
when it slipped through the line?

It's a wound, nothing more
It's a wound, nothing less
It's fine
It's fine
I'm over it

It's a wound, nothing more
It's a wound, nothing less
It's fine
It's fine
I'm over it

And the pages spun round
'til the tale and the pages
became, in the end,
something else.

And the pages spun round
'til the tale and the pages
became, in the end,
someone else.

Was the thread in the eye not binding
when I stitched through the spine?
Was the knife at the fold not kindly
when it slipped through the line?

It's a wound, nothing more
It's a wound, nothing less
It's fine
It's fine
I'm over it

It's a wound, nothing more
It's a wound, nothing less
It's fine
It's fine
I'm over it
