about

During a recent trip to Italy I bought a thumb piano in Naples. It was a vibrant yellow which I only realised later mirrored the Sorrento lemons you see everywhere from shops and restaurants or decorating everything from plates, mugs, and ornaments, to a range of fabrics.

Sorrento lemons are like lemons on steroids, being about three times larger than the ones for your G&T or gastropub fish and chips. One restaurant in Pompeii gave them to our group sliced with salt, pepper and olive oil, an amazing explosion of flavour.

This track was inspired by the warm sound of the thumb piano, the colour of Sorrento lemons, the intense midday heat, and sunlight sparkling on the Bay of Naples. The sound of cicadas at the end of the track was recorded during a visit to the historic city of Pompeii.
